Welcome!

You’ve come to the right place! If you are interested in enrolling your child with Kids Abilities or are here to learn more about our clinic, this is the spot to ‘get started’! Below is some information on what the intake and evaluation process look like as well as follow up appointments.

The first appointment your child will have will be their initial evaluation. Each evaluation will last 45 min. The therapist working with your child will likely have a few questions for you, and would appreciate you coming into the session with your child.
Depending on what is being evaluated, the therapist may choose to do either formal or informal testing with your child. It is important to know that not every session will look like the evaluation, but instead rely heavily on play based therapy for your child’s enjoyment!
If your child is recommended for continued services, their sessions will take place weekly on the same day and time, along with the therapist that conducted the evaluation. Those regular therapy sessions are 45 min. as well.
Following each session, the therapist will provide families with a brief summary of what was completed during their child’s session. This is also a time for the therapist and caregiver to communicate or ask questions.

We understand that things come up and life happens! If you are needing to cancel or reschedule your child’s therapy session, we appreciate a phone call or email prior to the session. We encourage families to reschedule missed sessions when possible to help support each child’s progress!

Bringing your child in for an evaluation

If you are interested in bringing your child into Kids Abilities for an evaluation, there is some information that we will need to know.

It is important that we know a little bit about your child before they arrive for their evaluation, this information will let us know what evaluation methods are best and which therapist will be a good match for your child.
We encourage each family to confirm coverage with their insurance company for Kids Abilities prior to the first visit! We do our best to confirm that insurance is active, and communicate insurance findings with each family. We also will contact your child’s primary doctor to get a hold of doctors orders. One less step for you to do.

The documents under the ‘General Intake’ section will each need to be filled out and returned to us to start the process of scheduling an evaluation. If you are coming in for Speech services, please fill out the additional forms found under the ‘Speech Therapy’ section.
